This is a picture of Boot.
You probably don't remember him, but he was the star of a show called
Readalong. He taught people how to read. According to Boot, one of his
favorite words is "Book" because if you take away the "k" and replace it
with the letter "t", it spells Boot! I believe that there has been
a conspiracy to blacklist Boot from the Internet. In fact, a search
of several popular search engines reveals only 3 pages on the Internet which
even mention Boot. A search on Ebay reveals many Boot imposters, but
the real Boot continues to elude those who are looking for him. People
fear his wisdom. Boot is such a nice guy. Look at his googily eyes and
his nicely tied laces. How could you possibly not like Boot?!?!
His personality was outgoing, warm and friendly. He has such a
positive outlook on things. I put his picture as the background
wallpaper on my mobile phone. That way, whenever I get angry or sad,
all I have to do to make myself happy again is open my phone and see Boot!
I have so many questions I would like to ask Boot if I could meet him.
What size is he? Is that measured in American or Canadian size?
(He looks like about a size 12 to me.) What does Boot do for fun when
he isn't hanging out at the library, reading? Does he like to play
soccer? I know he likes to kick things, so soccer just follows
naturally. What does his tread look like? Is he waterproof? I
remember, once he went swimming in an area that said "Stay" and "Swim" on
some signs. As it turned out, some parts of the signs were covered by
leaves from nearby trees and the signs actually said "Don't Swim" and "Stay
Away!" Boot ended up with seaweed all over him. Pretty thought
Boot looked "very, very, pretty" but Boot was quite upset. Does anyone
know on what date "Be Kind to Boot Day" happens to fall? I'd like to
take that day off from work to celebrate this great Canadian. Avril
Lavigne wishes she could be as popular as Boot. Alanis Morissette has
Boot posters on her bedroom wall at home. Does Boot enjoy math as well
as reading? What does he think about the Canadian to American dollar
exchange rate? Has he ever been to Montreal? I love Montreal!
The best vacation of my life was in Montreal. I've never met nicer
people than I found in Montreal! Someday I am going back to Canada and
I am going to visit Boot and Pretty in the museum. I'd really feel
honored to have my picture taken with Boot. He was pretty cool, I
remember. Boot had ethics and morals and he was honest and funny and
trustworthy and hard working. Do you remember when he and Pretty went
to the party and Granny's house? There were lots of games. At
first, Pretty was sad and she didn't want to go because she didn't have a
dress. Then, Boot politely explained to her that shoes don't wear
dresses and to cheer her up he brought her some "Pretty polish." Then
they went to the party at Granny's house and they wore those pointy party
hats. That was great. Boot likes to have fun. Do you
remember his favorite words? I remember he liked the word "Jump."

I like Boot because he
didn't sell out to pop culture. Boot was humble, unassuming and above
all, just plain helpful. Alas Boot seems to have gone underground.
He has not been seen since the early 80's. My girlfriend also
remembers Boot and holds him in very high esteem. She went to the
trouble to draw a composite sketch of what Boot might look like today.
In order to blend in to the society around him, she feels that Boot has
probably changed his image. He may very well have transformed himself from
plain old Boot into modern day Extreme Boot. Notice his trendy
glasses, nose ring, ear ring, MP3 player and scruffy alternative beard.
Being "extreme" he probably now leads a lifestyle involving Mountain Dew
chugging, Dorito munching and of course, skateboarding.
Here is a picture of Boot's girlfriend. No, her
name is not Shoe, her name is Pretty. I don't know much about her, but
I imagine that if Boot and Pretty had any offspring, it would probably look
like a basketball High Top shoe.
Well, that is all I know about Boot. I just want
to help Boot establish a solid presence on the Internet and let him know
that some people still remember him and are very thankful for all of his
help in aiding so many people to gain a better understanding of the
complexities of the English language.
Boot, if you are out there anywhere, I urge you to
please come out of hiding. You are very much missed by so many people.
I am Boot's number one fan!!
Just a quick note about this website. Every so
often I look at the log files and it is interesting to note that the
majority of hits to this website come from people in Canada. I think
it is fantastic that so many people in Canada remember Boot. He is
really great, isn't he? I would like to add a new bulletin board
section to this Boot website. If you send me an email with your
memories of Boot, Pretty and Readalong in general, I will happily post it,
with or without your email address, as you prefer.
